A Jackson County judge sentenced a Kansas City man to five years of probation Monday for causing an April 2012 wreck that split his car and killed a 17-year-old passenger.
Dawontay D. Frazier, 20, agreed to serve seven years in prison if he violates any of the terms of his probation, a spokesman for the Jackson County prosecutors office said.

While driving at more than 100 mph on Hillcrest Road, between 95th and 87th streets, Frazier lost control of his car, which left the road and struck two trees, court records said.
The impact split the car into two sections and killed Alycia Cornelius. Frazier suffered critical injuries.
Witnesses told police that it appeared as if Frazier’s car was racing another vehicle, but the other driver denied racing, according to court records.
Frazier pleaded guilty Monday, the day his trial was to have opened.
