People, children allowed back in school, homes after gas line capped in southern Kansas City

A construction crew struck a natural gas line causing it to rupture and forcing the evacuation of nearby homes and school Thursday morning.

Crews struck the gas line near Longview Road and Food Lane about 7:30 a.m.

Firefighters evacuated nearby homes and the Ingels Elementary School.

The leak, however, was capped around noon, allowing people to return to the school and homes.
