In Overland Park, twins have babies on the same day

Twins Kayla and Kortney Dutton have shared a lot in their lives, and on Monday night the 20-year-old sisters became mothers together at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Monday, Kayla gave birth to her son, Jax. Less than an hour and a half later, Kortney gave birth to her daughter, Nevaeh.

“They’re closer in age than we are,” Kayla said with a laugh Tuesday.

Sitting in their shared hospital suite, the sisters held their newborns while family filtered in and out of the room to meet the newest additions. On each side of their matching beds sat the identical twin sisters’ own baby pictures.

Even Jax and Nevaeh have a little bit of twin in them.

“They look so much alike,” Kortney said. “They really do.”

Jax is the first boy on the Dutton side of the family in 13 years, Kayla said.

The sisters recently bought a house together in Grandview and hope to leave the hospital for home on Thursday.

But the Dutton family isn’t done just yet. Kayla and Kortney’s sister, Miranda, is due to have a son on June 22.
