Two shot at convenience stores in KC, Independence

Police in Kansas City and Independence are investigating two shootings early Sunday morning in the parking lots of area convenience stores.

Kansas City police were called shortly before 4 a.m. to a QuikTrip at East 87th Street and Hillcrest Road where one person suffered a life-threatened gunshot injury. The victim was hospitalized. Police have one person in custody and are looking for a second person.

In Independence, one person was shot while assaulting another person in the parking lot of a 7-11 at 24 Highway and East Susquehanna Ridge. According to police, the person who was shot tried to flee, driving to a Price Chopper supermarket near Missouri Highway 291 and 21st Street, where he called for help. He was taken to a hospital.
