Driver who ran over bicyclist gets seven years

A Blue Springs man who ran over a bicyclist and then left the scene was sentenced Friday to seven years in prison for assault.

Adam L. Myers, 20, told police he thought the man he saw riding the bike in the 2800 block of Northwest Kingsridge Drive had been molesting a child that Myers knew. But police said the victim was not a suspect in that case.

On Sept. 26 Myers passed the cyclist on the road then turned around, drove toward him and struck him with his pickup truck, according to court records. A police officer on patrol saw the victim, also 20, propelled through the air. While the officer was helping the victim, Myers drove off with the bicycle still lodged under his truck.

Myers pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and armed criminal action.
