Fred Logan has been named chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents.
The board elected Logan, of Leawood, and named Kenny Wilk of Basehor vice chairman.
Gov. Sam Brownback appointed both regents to the board in 2011.
Logan, a lawyer and partner in Logan Logan & Watson in Prairie Village, also serves on the board of the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute. He is a former vice chair and director of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and former chair and director of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, and he has served on the board at Johnson County Community College
Logan in a statement attributed the successful campaigns for National Cancer Institute designation at the University of Kansas and the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility site adjacent to Kansas State University to the state having “first-rate” universities.
Wilk, a former state representative for the 42nd District, is a director of First State Bank & Trust in Tonganoxie.
Both men will serve one year in their positions, beginning in July.
