A woman was killed Saturday night when she reportedly fell out of a party bus and was run over by another vehicle on Interstate 35 in Kansas City, Kan.
The incident was reported just before 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes near the exit to Southwest Boulevard. Police shut down traffic on I-35’s northbound lanes at 18th Street while investigators worked at the scene to determine what happened.
No one else on the bus and no drivers involved were injured.
It was not known late Saturday what company was involved.
Kirt Snow of Kansas City Party Bus said that it wasn’t one of his company’s vehicles but that one of his drivers drove past the incident right after it happened.
He said his driver and customers were pretty shook up about seeing the incident. Snow said he couldn’t figure out how the incident could have happened.
“It’s very, very hard to fall out of a legal party bus,” Snow said. “The only way would be if you opened or were hanging out the emergency door in the back.”
There are only a few party bus companies like his that carry liability insurance and employ fully licensed commercial drivers, according to Snow. A number of others are just out to make a quick buck, he said.
“They’ll put anybody behind the wheel and drive those people around,” Snow said. “It’s a big problem.”
