Police standoff at Kansas City apartment ends with surrender

An standoff at a midtown Kansas City apartment ended after a man surrendered to police early Tuesday.

Police responded to a disturbance about 2 a.m. at an apartment in the 3400 block of Holmes Street.

Witnesses told police the disturbance involved a man and a woman and that the man might be armed.

Both people were inside and police couldn’t tell whether the woman was free to leave.

Police initiated a tactical response, called an Operation 100, believing they had an armed person barricaded inside.

Some residents of adjacent apartments were evacuated.

The man left the apartment about 4:30 a.m. and was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
