A car thief released two Kansas City, Kan., children unharmed after swiping the vehicle they were inside early Monday from a gas station on Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan.
Police said their mother had just purchased gas from the station at 18th Street and Parallel Parkway and left the siblings inside the white 2005 Saturn while she went inside to pay. Meanwhile, someone jumped into the vehicle and drove away with, said Sgt. Emmett Lockridge.

Other motorists tried to follow the vehicle to get license plate information but were unsuccessful. The children, ages 9 and 2, were dropped off a short time later at 12th Street and Troup Avenue, about a half mile from the gas station, Lockridge said.
A construction worker in the area saw the children walking and notified authorities. Lockridge said he did not immediately know if the mother left the engine running when she went inside to pay for the gas.
Police continue to look for the vehicle, Lockridge said.
