NASCAR has been personally touched by the Boston Marathon bombing.

Sean Collier, the MIT police officer who was fatally shot in the confrontation with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, is the brother of a machinist with Hendrick Motorsports.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Hendrick Motorsports are with Andrew Collier and his family,” Hendrick Motorsports said in a statement.

Hendrick owns the Sprint Cup cars of five-time champion Jimmie Johnson; four-time champion Jeff Gordon; Dale Earnhardt Jr.; and Kasey Kahne, all of whom will be competing in Sunday’s STP 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Andrew Collier, 25, joined Hendrick Motorsports in September 2008.
