The former treasurer of a Fort Osage elementary school PTA has pleaded guilty to embezzling funds from the organization.
Mary A. Ward, 32, agreed to repay $22,000 as part of Monday’s plea agreement in Jackson County Circuit Court, according to prosecutors.

The thefts from the PTA at Blue Hills Elementary School in Independence occurred in 2010 and 2011, according to court records.
Ward pleaded guilty to theft and was ordered to serve 120 days of home detention as a condition of her five-year term of probation. She also must perform 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the PTA.
