A traffic crash killed a pedestrian today on Bruce R. Watkins Drive at 55th Street in Kansas City.
The crash occurred about 2:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes. Police shut down the northbound lanes at 59th Street to gather evidence from the scene, but reopened them about 3:30 p.m. The driver involved in the incident stayed at the scene and was talking to police.
Witnesses told police the male pedestrian appeared to suddenly dart into the road in front of a black Chevrolet Nova. Witnesses told police the car had the green light. Police think the victim may have had trouble seeing the car because it was raining.
“It really does knock down the visibility and a person’s ability to judge speed,” said Sgt. Bill Mahoney, who supervises investigations of serious wrecks.
The victim’s name and age were not released.
