A city employee inspecting a sewer pumping station in Independence found what appeared to be a human fetus, police said this afternoon.
About 8:30 a.m. today, the employee was conducting a routine inspection of the pumping station near Dickinson and East Mayes roads. The employee called police, who responded with the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s office.
The fetus appears to be human and in the first trimester, according to Independence police.
Police said the area where the discovery was made receives sewage from thousands of locations. There was no indication of foul play, according to police.
