A leading state senator wants Missouri’s utility regulators to reconsider plans for a public hearing on legislation that would let power companies seek surcharges for infrastructure between rate cases.
The Public Service Commission scheduled a hearing on the bill April 8 after receiving a request from Republican state Sen. Eric Schmitt.
The commission can hold a public hearing and take testimony about bills at the request of the Legislature.
But in a letter to the PSC on Monday, Republican Senate President Pro Tem Tom Dempsey said he’s unaware of the panel ever holding such a hearing at the request of a single lawmaker.
Public Service Commission Chairman Robert Kenney says Dempsey has raised some “valid and interesting points” to consider.
