Kansas City police ID driver killed at Union Station garage

Kansas City police today identified a man who died after getting pinned in the door of his pickup truck while leaving a Union Station parking garage Wednesday as Leonard A. Prestia, 68, of Gladstone.

Police said Prestia had taken his 5-year-old granddaughter and her friend to Science City. He was paying his parking toll about 11:30 a.m. when he dropped a dollar bill. He opened his truck door and leaned down to pick it up, police said. He accidentally pushed the gas pedal, causing his truck to lurch forward. The door struck a large pillar, closing the door on Prestia. Bystanders backed his truck up and freed him, but he later died from his injuries. The children were not hurt.
