Two children hurt in Northland highway crash

Two children were injured, one seriously, after the car in which they were riding overturned Sunday afternoon on Interstate 35 in Clay County.

Authorities responded to the accident in the northbound lanes just after 1 p.m. The car had traveled off the left side of the highway and then overturned after the driver over-corrected, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The car came to rest on its wheels on the right side of the interstate.

Ryan Jones, 8, was seriously injured and Christopher Jones, 12, suffered moderate injuries. Both children are from Kellyville, Okla. Emergency personnel took them to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Christopher had been wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol, while Ryan had not.

Michelle Jones, identified as the car’s driver, was taken to Liberty Hospital with moderate injuries.
