A Lansing man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Friday in the shooting deaths of two brothers in December outside a barber shop in Leavenworth.
Aundray McDonald, 36, killed 25-year-old Derrick Jones and 28-year old Marshall Jones, both of Leavenworth. McDonald and Derrick Jones had arranged to fight. When Jones arrived at the First City Barbershop he was with his brother and two other people and one of the four had a gun. McDonald was originally charged with first-degree murder. The prosecutor’s office said the manslaughter plea was based on McDonald’s “unreasonable but honest belief” that the circumstances justified deadly force.
McDonald also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is already in jail on a felony out of Johnson County and could be sentenced to more than 18 years in this case.
