Shooting leaves nine injured
Kansas City police officers responded to a reported shooting call in the 7900 block of Troost Avenue around 4 a.m.
Arriving officers found three women suffering from gunshot wounds. The women were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a police spokesperson.
Police later learned that six additional shooting victims had arrived at area hospitals in private vehicles. All nine victims were adults and none of their injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.
Police have not said what led to the shooting as of Tuesday morning.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas posted on social media blaming the promoters and owners of an unlicensed after-hours club for the shooting.
An Instagram post on Thursday touted an after-hours event at 7926 Troost Avenue: “Big Mama’s Playhouse presents: First Friday After Hours.”
DiMartino said Monday that they were not aware of a specific event at that location, and at this point in the investigation, that they “can’t say anything was related to the establishment at 7926 Troost.”
Less than 20 hours after the shooting at Troost Avenue and 79th Street, officers responded to a shooting inside a QuikTrip convenience store in the 1200 block of Westport Road that left two dead.
Officers were summoned to the store around 11:30 p.m. Saturday and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside the business, according to police.
One victim, later identified as 24-year-old Rickey Cal, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 18-year-old Jeron Jackson, was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died Sunday morning, according to police.
Lee’s Summit Downtown Days
In Lee’s Summit, police spent nearly two hours breaking up a series of incidents and disturbances involving teenagers at the city’s Downtown Days festival Saturday night.
Two teenagers were detained during the evening and later released to their guardians.
Authorities said one detained teen allegedly discharged bear spray during the incident, and another juvenile who fled from officers was later found to be carrying an unregistered, 3D-printed “ghost gun,” according to police
Lee’s Summit Police Department Sgt. Chris Depue said Tuesday morning that no charges have been filed against any juvenile involved in the disturbances at the town’s Downtown Days street festival.
Depue said charges would not come quickly, and those reports would have to be reviewed by juvenile authorities before decisions are made.
