ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police say the Missouri man who was fatally shot by officers after he stabbed a police dog to death, was a rape suspect.
Members of the North Star Fugitive Task Force were trying to pick up 32-year-old Alden Patrick Anderson of St. Louis on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct warrant Tuesday.
Officers went to a St. Paul home where they found Anderson armed with a knife in the basement. Police say Anderson fatally stabbed police dog Kody. Officers then fatally shot Anderson.
St. Paul police Officer Jeffrey Thissen (TEE'-sehn) was among officers who fired their weapons. Thissen is on standard administrative leave. Two deputy U.S. marshals also fired their weapons.
Kody was 9 years old and had been with the St. Paul Police Department for seven years.
