Oscar statuette making a stop in KC on Feb. 14

Here’s a crazy idea for that surprise engagement you’re planning for Valentine’s Day.

Nothing says I love you more than a little golden naked guy.

Yep, hand your honey an Oscar.

It could happen this year.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent one of the statuettes on a road trip across the country, and it arrives in Kansas City next week on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

The Oscar road trip kicked off in New York City on Monday and winds up back in Hollywood on the day of the awards, Feb. 24.

Along the way, a few lucky fans will be given (golden?) tickets to attend the red carpet event at the Oscars.

“We created the Oscar Roadtrip to bring the magic and fun of the Oscar ceremony to movie fans across the country,” says Josh Spector, managing director of digital media and marketing for the academy. “The Oscar Roadtrip makes it possible to share the once-in-a-lifetime thrill that only comes from holding an Oscar statuette.”

So where will it show up in Kansas City? That part is up to us. You want it at your birthday party? Your school? Your workplace? Just submit a request at

And yes, you can hold it and take a picture with it.

We hear he’s one heavy little dude.
