KC man shot in home invasion robbery

A man in his late 20s suffered critical injuries when he fought with armed home invaders who wanted to steal his 60-inch television and Wii game system Thursday morning in Kansas City.

The robbery occurred about 9 a.m. at a house in the 1500 block of East 77th Terrace, which is divided into two apartments. The victim and his brother moved into the basement apartment about a month ago, police said.

The brother was asleep in the front room when two men kicked their way inside. One man wore a ski mask and the other covered his face. They pointed a gun and announced they were going to steal his TV and Wii. The victim, who was asleep in the back room, heard the commotion, came into the front room and started to fight the robbers. One robber shot him in the chest.

Witnesses saw the robbers fleeing in a late-model white car with the trunk open to accommodate the large TV.

Neighbors told police the victims had frequent parties. Police were investigating whether the robbers had attended a party and then hatched a plan to steal the TV.

Anyone with information should call 816-474-TIPS (8477).
