KC teen accused in fatal March shooting of 16-year-old girl

Jackson County prosecutors today charged a Kansas City man in connection with the March 16 killing of a teenage girl.

Christopher Sherman, 19, was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 16-year-old Jalisa Reed.

He allegedly shot Reed while she visited with friends outside an apartment complex in the 7600 block of Monroe Avenue.

According to court documents, the occupants of a vehicle, including Sherman, were involved in an argument with the victim and some of her friends before he allegedly fired shots from a handgun. Reed was shot in the face, and another young woman was wounded in the hip.

The two groups had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier at a different residence, according to the court documents.

According to court documents, when questioned by detectives, Sherman said that someone else had fired shots toward him before he returned fire.
