Candlelight vigil will remember Sikh temple shooting victims

A candlelight vigil is planned for Wednesday night to honor the six people killed in Sunday’s shooting rampage at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis.

The vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. at Shelter No. 4 at Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road.

People are asked to bring a candle and wear blue as a sign of peace.

The vigil will include two speakers, a prayer and a balloon release in honor of the victims.

The vigil is a collaboration involving the Punjabi Cultural Society of the Heartland, Unity Temple, Hatebusters, the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council, the Sikh Dharma of Kansas City and others.

On Friday, the Kansas City Midwest Sikh Association Gurdwara will host a vigil from 8:45 to 9:45 p.m. at 6834 Pflumm Road.
