Platte County authorities today added a sexual charge against a 23-year-old man previously accused of attacking and mutilating a woman with a razor.
The amended complaint accuses Quintin P. O’Dell, of Platte City, of deviate sexual intercourse with the 22-year-old woman.
According to court records, he sexually assaulted the woman Dec. 26 in a Ferrelview apartment before slashing her abdomen. Her intestines fell out of her abdomen on the living room floor, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd.
The new charge was filed as part of the ongoing investigation of O’Dell. Zahnd declined to release details of the sexual assault.
Authorities said O’Dell had gone to the woman’s residence Christmas night to hang out with her.
The woman told investigators that she woke up the next morning and went into the bathroom holding her abdomen because it hurt. In the mirror she could see that she’d been cut open. She panicked and fell into the bathtub. She was able to get up and cross the hall to get her neighbor’s help, according to court records.
O’Dell appeared in Platte County Associate Circuit Court today to face the amended charge.
In February, prosecutors charged him with first-degree murder in the slaying of Alyssa F. Shippert on May 31, 2011. O’Dell is accused of bludgeoning the 22-year-old to death with a hatchet he’d found along the shore of the Platte River at the Platte Falls Conservation Area.
According to court records, O’Dell allegedly struck Shippert in the back of the head. When Shippert collapsed to the ground crying, O’Dell allegedly got on his knees beside her and repeatedly struck her in the face with the hatchet until she was no longer breathing. O’Dell then allegedly pulled Shippert’s body into the river, according to court records.
