Young girl suffers serious injuries when ATV flips in Kansas City crash

A child was seriously injured when she flipped an all-terrain vehicle she was driving Sunday afternoon in Kansas City’s Swope Parkway-Elmwood neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to the crash about 5:30 p.m. Sunday near East 55th Street and Myrtle Avenue, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a young girl under the age of 10 was riding an ATV on a vacant lot, Becchina said. As she was headed uphill, she accelerated and flipped the ATV, causing her to fall.

The girl’s mother rushed her to a hospital, where the girl was being treated for serious injuries, Becchina said.
