Man admits trying to carry loaded pistol onto plane at KCI

A 26-year-old Kansas City man pleaded guilty Friday to having a loaded pistol in his carry-on luggage at Kansas City International Airport in late December.

Authorities reported recovering almost $5,000 from Anthony Winn’s pockets and $26,515 from clothes in his carry-on bag.

Winn admitted in his plea agreement that he knew he had the 9 mm Glock pistol in his bag. He told investigators at the time that he was taking the bag to a friend in Arizona, according to an account of the interview in federal court records.

The money, he said, was to be used to establish an automobile business in Tucson and to purchase two vehicles.

Winn was going through airport security the morning of Dec. 28 when X-ray equipment detected the handgun, loaded with 23 live rounds, including one in the chamber.

Winn was attempting to board a Delta Air Lines flight to Minneapolis and planned to fly from there to Tucson.
