Graves was found dead March 19 in the back yard of a vacant house at 40th Street and Olive Avenue.
Jones, who according to court records lives less than a block from where the body was found, allegedly told a witness that he killed Graves, according to a probable cause statement filed in Jackson County Circuit Court.
Another witness told police that Graves had been at a nearby residence and left with a man later identified as Jones. The witness said Jones, carrying a gun, later returned to the residence, but the witness did not speak to him because he was armed.
Another person told detectives that Graves was carrying a large black purse and walking with a man, later identified as Jones. According to the court documents, that person heard a shot and then saw Jones walking from the area carrying a large black bag that looked like the bag Graves had been carrying.
When questioned by police, Jones said he knew Graves and had seen her the night before she was found dead, but he said she was alive when he left her, according to the court documents.
Jones was in custody Monday and prosecutors requested a $250,000 bond.
