Highway headaches are in store this weekend for U.S. 69 drivers in south Overland Park.
The highway will be shut down overnight Saturday so workers can demolish the 159th Street bridge. The highway will close at 7 p.m. Saturday and reopen by 10 a.m. Sunday.
The work is part of an $8.1 million project to widen 159th Street to four lanes from Antioch Road to Metcalf Avenue. In addition to replacing the bridges over U.S. 69, the project calls for adding storm sewers, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and street lights. The entire project is expected to be done this fall.
Southbound traffic will exit the highway at 151st Street and will be routed south on Metcalf. Northbound traffic will exit at 179th Street, and will sent north on Metcalf.
