Section of Trolley Trail closed by sinkhole fear

The Trolley Track Trail between Troost and Woodland avenues is closed until further notice because of concern over sinkholes.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, which maintains the trail, is asking pedestrians and bicyclists to use 85th Street as a detour.

A large sinkhole opened in that section in 2010, and the ATA hired consultants and geologists to investigate and repair it.

But officials remain concerned because of abandoned mining operations in the area.

“There is no evidence of imminent collapse,” the ATA said. “However, until the area can be more thoroughly assessed, KCATA has created a detour and closed this section of trail in the interest of public safety.”
