Shawnee’s new fire chief, John Mattox, will take office on Monday, the city announced.
Mattox, who has served as deputy fire chief, joined the Shawnee Fire Department in 2001. He previously worked for Edwardsville’s fire department, starting as a volunteer in 1979 and rising to the rank of assistant fire chief.
The new chief holds a degree in management and human relations from MidAmerica Nazarene University. He is the president of the International Association of Arson Investigators’ Kansas chapter.
Mattox succeeds Jeff Hudson, who retired as chief earlier this fall. Mattox had been serving as interim chief since then.
