A fire of suspicious origin destroyed two vacant apartment buildings this morning, Kansas City firefighters said.
They first responded at about 3 a.m. at the fire near Ninth Street and Gladstone Boulevard, they said. Kansas City Power and Light workers cut off electricity to many area homes as a precaution.

The fire is now under control and did about $50,000 damage to the two buildings, firefighters said.
