The body of an unidentified person was found in rural Cass County on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies were called to an area near East 223rd Street and South Prospect Avenue around 3:30 p.m. after receiving a call that someone found a body in a pond.
Investigators confirmed a body was located in a shallow pond, and started investigating the death.
The sheriff’s office said it was working with the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the person’s identity and the cause of death.

The body was found close to where crews were searching Friday for a missing man, though authorities have not yet determined whether the two incidents are linked, said Capt. Kevin Tieman, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
Days earlier, the sheriff’s office was asking for the public’s help locating a 54-year-old Cleveland man who was reported missing on Aug. 3. The man was identified as Dalen “Dale” R. Miller.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 816-380-5200.
“Even if the person they found is the same — and it may not be — right now, we can’t identify who the person is,” Tieman said.
