Police say an "armed and dangerous" suspect is at large after an early morning car chase in south Johnson County.

The suspect was last seen shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of I-35 and Lone Elm Road. He is described as a balding white male, approximately 30 years old, in a black tank top and jeans.

The chase started when officers from the Wellsville Police Department pursued a stolen car northbound on I-35 into Johnson County. Deputies with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office used stop sticks to safely halt the car near Lone Elm Road.

The suspect ran away, and according to a report, deputies heard a single shot a short time later. Police searched the area until around 8 a.m., but didn't find the man.

The overnight search was a team effort between the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Gardner Police Department, Lenexa Police Department, Olathe Police Department, Spring Hill Police Department, Ottawa Police Department and Wellsville Police Department.

Police are warning anyone who sees the suspect to not approach him, and to call local authorities.
