A 17-year-old girl was fatally injured when the pickup truck she was getting out of was struck by a vehicle Saturday evening in Kansas City, Kan.

Police responded about 7:45 p.m. Saturday to the scene in the 6700 block of Georgia Avenue.

Arriving officers found that the teenager, who was a passenger, was getting out of a pickup when a vehicle traveling northbound on 67th Street hit the truck.

The teen was outside of the truck when she was struck. She was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries. Police did not release her name to the public Sunday, saying her family still needed to be notified.

Other occupants of the two vehicles were taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department's Traffic Support Unit/Critical Collision Response Team.
