Police are investigating a crash Tuesday morning that killed a person on the exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to Noland Road in Independence.

The victim was identified Tuesday afternoon as a 61-year-old woman. Her name was not released.

The crash occurred when the woman's 2012 Kia Sorento left the roadway and struck a concrete embankment just west of Noland Road, Independence police said.

The single-vehicle crash forced authorities to close the ramp as well as reduce I-70 to two lanes in the area while they investigate. Traffic through the area was moving slow and was backing up beyond Sterling Avenue.

The crash occurred about 10 a.m. on the ramp to Noland Road. Details of what led up to the crash were not immediately available.

The woman was alone in the vehicle, police said.
