A 66-year-old St. Joseph woman was killed Wednesday evening when a semitractor-trailer traveling the wrong way on Interstate 29 was involved in a crash with another vehicle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified as Cynthia J. Humphrey. The crashed happened just after 9 p.m. near mile marker 24, south of the exit for Northwest County Road E.

A 2004 Cadillac, in which Humphrey was a passenger, crashed into the back of a semi as the tractor-trailer tried to cross the median and go from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes.

Humphrey died at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac, identified as Herbert D. Humphrey, 67, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Both victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
