Police closed southbound Interstate 29 for several hours early Monday after a semitractor-trailer struck and killed a pedestrian.
The blue Freightliner truck struck the pedestrian shortly before 2 a.m. when the person stepped into a lane of traffic on I-29 near Northwest 112th Street in Kansas City, North.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours while police investigated the crash. The scene was cleared shortly before 6 a.m., according to Kansas City Scout.
