Driver killed after speeding car careened off KC road and struck trees 126 feet away

Police were investigating a fatal crash where a vehicle left the road at a T-intersection and traveled nearly half the length of a football field before slamming into several trees in Kansas City.

The crash occurred about 10:40 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Mersington Avenue and 36th Street.

The driver was headed east on 36th at high speeds. When the vehicle reached the intersection at Mersington, it continued east off the road. The vehicle traveled about 126 feet from the intersection where it struck several trees.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
