The Shawnee Mission School Board is expected to appoint the district’s next superintendent tonight.
After a whirlwind day of second interviews and community sessions for three superintendent finalists this past Saturday, the Shawnee Mission School Board announced it will approve a final superintendent contract at a special meeting Monday night.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Center for Academic Achievement, 8200 W. 71st Street, Overland Park.
Just last week, the School Board announced three finalists in a search to replace former superintendent Jim Hinson, who retired this past June.
Deputy Superintendent Kenny Southwick was appointed to serve as interim superintendent until July 1, when the new candidate would begin in the district.
The finalists include Michael Fulton, the current superintendent of the Pattonville School District in the St. Louis metropolitian area, Blane McCann, the current superintendent of Westside Community Schools in Omaha, Nebraska and Michael Muñoz, the current superintendent of Rochester Public Schools in Rochester, Minnesota.
On Saturday, the candidates met with School Board members, then spoke with community members and answered questions in half-hour sessions with the public.
