A squatter jumped from a ledge and was hospitalized after setting a fire inside at vacant building in the Crossroads District, fire officials said.
The fire originated about 9 p.m. Friday inside a building in the 1900 block of Main Street in downtown Kansas City.
Several pumper trucks responded to the fire, and at least one person was seen being removed from the building on a stretcher.
According to fire officials, a man squatting in the building set a fire on the first floor, then jumped from a ledge to escape flames. He was expected to survive.

Police blocked several streets in the area and Kansas City Streetcar service was temporarily suspended due to fire.
