Police arrested a teenager in a Saturday night gun battle at a Lawrence Motel 6 that left a Lenexa man dead and at least two people injured.

Tyrone J. Carvin, 19, will face a first-degree murder charge and two counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated assault stemming from gun violence that left 23-year-old Cameron A. Hooks of Lenexa dead and two other men with life-threatening injuries.

Carvin was taken into custody after he had gone to a Kansas City-area hospital and was treated and released with a gunshot wound. He was jailed in Kansas City, Kan., but will be returned to Lawrence to face the criminal charges.

Hooks, friends said, had only recently moved to Kansas from Raleigh, N.C., following his mother who had moved here in 2016.

The investigation is continuing, Lawrence police said, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 785-832-7509 or Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-843-TIPS (8477).
