A family of four escaped from a fire in their Johnson County house late Wednesday that appeared to have started on an exterior wall and burned up into the attic.
The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. in the 16600 block of Riggs Road in Johnson County. Firefighters from Overland Park and Johnson County Fire District No. 2 responded, and firefighters reported seeing a small fire on the roof of the single-story house when they arrived.
All of the occupants had escaped to safety before firefighters arrived. The blaze was quickly extinguished on the roof and in the attic of the home.
No injuries were reported. The fire damaged the attic and the home’s exterior. Firefighters had to pull down some of the ceiling to get to the fire, which made the house uninhabitable.
