Searchers pull body of 50-year-old male drowning victim from Lake Jacomo

Searchers pulled the body of a 50-year-old male drowning victim from Lake Jacomo early Monday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office

Searchers found the man’s body about 1:20 a.m. at the south end of the lake.

Emergency workers began searching for the man, believed to be from Kansas City, Sunday evening after he was reported to have drowned in Lake Jacomo around 5 p.m.

“A family was out on a pontoon boat here at Lake Jacomo and a couple of people on the boat decided to go swimming,” said Jackson County Sheriff Mike Sharp. “One of the individuals jumped in and began to thrash around in the water and went under and never resurfaced.”

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue and Recovery team searched for the victim near the south boat dock as night fell.

The name of the man who is believed to have drowned was not released, pending the notification of immediate family.
