A Kansas City motorist was killed late Wednesday after a Union Pacific train crashed into his vehicle at 59th Street and Manchester Trafficway, police said.
The victim’s name has not been released as police continued their investigation.
Officers were called to the scene just before midnight. They found a vehicle with extensive front-end damage parked on the roadway. The car had been pushed off to the side of the nearby railroad tracks. The driver appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken to a hospital and died several hours later, police said
It is the second time in two days that a person was killed after being struck by a train.

On Wednesday, a train struck and killed a pedestrian near Missouri 291 in Independence.
Officers responded to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. and found a person killed on the train tracks under Missouri 291, north of East 39th Street South. The person’s name has not yet been released.
