Sporting Kansas City players Ike Opara and Benny Feilhaber got a close-up look at a new dynamic defender at the Kansas City Zoo Sunday.
But don’t expect the new player, Kansas City Zoo’s sea lion Delilah, to be suiting up any time soon at Children’s Mercy Park, even though the zoo calls her a “dynamic defender.”
The event was part of Sporting KC Day at the zoo. As part of the day, the animals received gifts such as T-shirts, cups and scarves from Sporting KC. Even the orangutans got in the spirit by “suiting up” in Sporting KC apparel.
After playing with Delilah, Opara and Feilhaber gave their impressions.

“She’s a better teammate than you,” Opara said gesturing to Feilhaber.
“She’s really loyal,” Feilhaber said. “She follows directions better than any player on our team. She’s definitely a good teammate.”
She’s dedicated and passionate about what she does, Opara added
As for skills?
“She eats a lot of fish,” Feilhaber said. “She’s got a little bad breath, but Oral B and Crest can fix that.”
