A fire heavily damaged two units of an apartment complex in Raytown, but residents escaped the blaze with no injuries.

The fire was reported about 4:25 p.m. Saturday at the Overton apartments in the 7400 block of Overton Avenue. The area is near Blue Parkway and Raytown Road.

Crews from Raytown and Kansas City battled the blaze.

No major injuries were reported, however one Raytown police officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Twelve apartment units were damaged by the fire, including two with heavy damage.

The American Red Cross assisted residents displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation, officials said.
