Single mother laid off in summer falls behind on bills

Share the Season is an annual campaign that offers one-time aid to people affected by unforeseen hardships. The people are not identified to protect their privacy.

The single mother of an 8-year-old has struggled since summer to pay her bills. She is 28.

And this summer, the aunt and uncle who helped raise her both died.

During the grieving process, she was laid off and fell behind in paying bills.

She worries most about her daughter.

"A family member suggested I apply to Share the Season," she said. "I was struggling and want to be able to get my daughter some things for Christmas."

She has a $450 bill she owes on utilities, and her car has been unreliable.

"I have received disconnection notices and I can only pay enough to keep things on for a time. My family has helped a little but they can't continue," she said.

She is hoping Share the Season will help her catch up.

"It has been a really rough road for us the last few months," the woman said. "I am hopeful my daughter can have a good Christmas this year. By something good, I mean clothes, not so much toys. That's what she needs."
