Man found dead in burning truck in Tonganoxie

A man was reportedly found dead early Thursday morning in a burning truck in Tonganoxie in Leavenworth County.

According to media reports, Tonganoxie firefighters were called to Tonganoxie Drive near Front Street just after 12:45 a.m. on reports of a vehicle fire under the U.S. 24/40 bridge. A Leavenworth County Sheriff’s deputy was first to arrive and reported the truck was engulfed in flames.

Officials said witnesses reported two vehicles were speeding down County Road 5 Thursday when the truck driver lost control and slammed into concrete highway pillars. The truck burst into flames.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and found a person dead inside the vehicle.
