Power restored for most after storms affect thousands in the KC metro area

High winds and heavy rain have affected thousands of KCP&L customers in the Kansas City area.

More than 4,000 customers metrowide were affected by power outages Thursday evening, according to a map provided by KCP&L.

Most of the outages were in Mission, where nearly 1,500 customers were without power about 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

A solid line of severe storms is expected in the area until midnight.

The main threat from these storms is damaging winds up to 65 mph. Some large hail and an isolated tornado will be possible. There’s a threat of possible flash flooding.

Jeff Beeson, a spokesman for KCP&L, said crews will continue to work to restore power throughout the evening, weather permitting.

“It just depends on what the storm does,” Beeson said. “If it gets too bad, they’ll have to stop.”

To report a power outage, call 1-888-Light-KC (1-888-544-4852) or online at www.kcpl.com.
