The Kansas City area’s unemployment rate was estimated at 6 percent in September 2014, compared with 5.9 percent in September 2013, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
The local figure, which isn’t seasonally adjusted, compares with a 5.7 percent national rate for September on the same basis. National figures typically are seasonally adjusted — on that basis, the national jobless rate was 5.9 percent for September.
Nonfarm employment in the Kansas City area was reported at 1,021,100 in September 2014, up 4,600, or 0.5 percent, from September 2013. National employment was up 2 percent over the 12 months.
The Kansas City area lost an estimated 1,600 jobs from August 2014 to September 2014, the bureau said.
